Comparing the different stages of Meaningful Use – Are you planning for Stage 2 and 3?

Meaningful Use Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3. It’s beginning to sound like that famous bike race, the Tour de France. All kidding aside, the comparison maybe isn’t as far reaching as you might think. You win the Tour by successfully meeting the requirements of each Stage in the race. If you focus only on one stage, you’ll get the spotlight for that day but probably not be successful in the long run. The long run success is done through planning and proper training.

Much like the Tour, your success with Meaningful Use is also done through planning. Right now, your organization needs to focus on planning and preparing for how you will meet the Stage 1 criteria. But, it’s also good to know where you need to be in 2 more years as well to meet Stage 2 and 3. Are you aware of what the different criteria are for the different stages?.

With that in mind, there’s a very helpful matrix of the different requirements of each stage at this link. Learn them, plan for them, and you might have a better chance at winning your own maillot jaune

And if you haven’t already seen it, CMS has a great document with everything about stage 1.
